What are the behavior problems of toy poodles?

Toy poodles are loving creatures no one can resist. They are known for their friendly, sweet, and obedient nature, which makes them ideal toy dogs.

However, toy poodles can become cranky and show some behavioral problems, which can be chaotic sometimes.

In this blog, we will discuss a few such behavior issues of dog poodles.

1. Hyper-Sensitivity

Toy poodles are sensitive dogs who are also fragile and small in size. They don’t like it when their personal space is violated. They will also become sensitive if you touch them too harshly or do unexpected things.

They are soft dogs and may flinch if you scare them with loud noise. This dog breed can’t live in a noisy place, and people are fighting over petty issues.

If you don’t want your dog to be super sensitive, create a peaceful living space for them.

You can also try different things and tasks with your dog to make them more resilient.

2. Biting/ nipping

Toy poodles can bite out of anxiety, aggression, or fear. They can also bite when new teeth are coming. They want to experiment with their baby teeth.

Every dog bites. But when your pet dog starts biting and nipping you or others, it is not acceptable behavior. There should be a difference between a street dog and a house dog.

You should train your dog from an early age not to bite. You can still incorporate good behavior in your dog with positive reinforcements.

Faking a cry and leaving the place for a few minutes can help your toy poodles realize their mistake.

Getting your dog a chewing toy will help him strengthen his teeth.

3. Separation anxiety

They tend to have anxiety when you leave them alone. You can try leaving them alone, but of course, after providing them toys to foster a good companionship.

4. Barking

Toy poodles are only 10 inches tall but have strong vocal cords, which they use for barking. They can bark when they see any unfamiliar or suspicious thing around them. They are watchdogs and have it in their instinct to bark.

However, it can be degrading, when they bark at your friends or neighbors. To sort out these issues, you should socialize them more.

Barking can also be due to boredom, threat, or fear.

5. Assert dominance

Toy poodles can show dominance sometimes and demand to sit in your lap without any invitation.

They can also refuse to obey your commands.

They can show tantrums while sleeping without your lap.

Some people feed their toy poodle human food, which is alright when done rarely.

It is harmful to their digestion. They can also beg to eat only your food in the future. It can be frustrating when you are having dinner with your friends and your pet refuses to obey your orders.

You must not treat them harshly, they will not learn with your big ‘NO’. Instead, always choose a positive way to handle your toy dog.

You must start crate training for sleeping since their puppyhood. In the future, they will sleep anywhere when trained well during infancy.

You should train your toy poodle not to jump in your lap or anyone’s when not asked for.

These behavioral problems are not a big deal, but keeping your pet a well-behaved dog is essential for credibility.
